Then and Now

I've been a bad blogger. But, I do have somewhat of an excuse. Feeling yucky. Seems the past two weeks I've been down with something. But I'm better now and I guess I have to go back to laundry and cooking dinner. I am a lucky girl though. Tim is a 'closet housewife'. His words, not mine. He even took himself to the store and bought some items to make dinner for a few nights. Yep, anything that needs done around here - he can do it. And, bonus - he does it happily and unconditionally. Now that's a man! :)

We also recieved a blessing in the form of dinner one night last week. Some of the girls from my scrapbooking group here got together and brought us a dinner. It was so nice. It warmed my heart as well as my tummy.

So, this was Will's third week of baseball and he did really well. We got there about 20 mins late and he team was just going out to the field. He stayed out there the whole time, alternating between playing in the dirt and trying to catch balls that were coming his way. But he made it through the whole game and I am happy about that. I think this is going to be a really good experience for him.

My new nephew

A good picture day

I'm just gonna post a couple of my favorites from today. This morning I took Autumn out for a photo shoot at a spot that I've been eyeballing for awhile. Then baseball - he did better this week. He played the out field with Tim helping him and we got him to bat (just barely - he really didn't want to) and he ran around the bases. Then he was done and wanted to head to the playground. I'm thinking that maybe each week we'll get him to hang in there a bit longer.

A moment changes everthing...

Tara was in McCall on her retreat so Autumn and I took William to his first baseball game. He is playing in a league called challenger baseball and it is for kids with any kind of disability. Our friend Matthew is on Will's team too. The only glove I found for him is for like a 10 year old so it was too big and he doesn't know how to catch too well anyway. He was very excited to go and really happy when we got there. We found the field and our team and pretty soon Will was starting to play catch with Matthew. He has downs syndrome and throws pretty well. So me and Allen (Matthews Dad) are doing our best to get them to play catch and Autumn is taking pictures trying to capture one when the ball is in the air.
Well, it wasn't long before William took one of Matthew's throws off his shoulder. Autumn happened to take her picture right after it bounced off of him. Well, I'm sure it had to hurt but I know it scared him also. He turned to me and started to cry so I tried to calm him and took him to sit down. Matthew also gave him a hug and tried to comfort him. He calmed down but he was done after that. He would not put his glove on to play catch and started to wander off to the outfield and looked to the playground from there saying he wanted to go play.
When the time came to line up everyone on the dugout bench in batting order he would not sit down and instead stood off at the end of the dugout sucking his thumb wth his hood halfway over his face. Autumn and I kept trying to gently coax him to sit down and get ready to bat but he would have none of it. Just before it was his turn on deck, he wandered off to the outfield fence again so I told them to skip his turn. Soon he was inching his way over to the playground through the outfield of another game. Well, I did not want to force him into anything so I followed him over there with Autumn thinking maybe we could get him back to the game after some playtime. It was cold, sprinkling and not real nice out.
So the kids played for a few but soon Will was yelling at a kid who got onto a bouncing platform before he did so I knew then it was time to go. I put him on my shoulders and told Autumn we were going to the car. I must admit, I was very bummed. I kept my cool the whole time but I was very sad that his game was ruined by the accidental ball to the shoulder. Truth is I felt bad for letting it happen in the first place, so I was really frustrated wth myself and sad that it did not work out and he did not participate. That was probably pretty selfish on my part.
There are no practices, just games every Saturday at 6pm. The games are very loose with the sole purpose being that everyone gets to participate and have fun, no losers just winners having a good time and cheering for each other. I look forward to Will participating. I saw Matthew hit the ball and run the bases with his Dad. Will did not want to even watch. Anyway, that is how it went down and I did not feel like I did a real good job. Oh well, try again next time!

Thanks for your prayers!

He's feeling much better. Playing, being loud, and not coughing or breathing hard! So wonderful! Still kept him home today to make sure he's ok. I think the prednisone really helps. Here's a little proof. ;) For some reason the sound seems to be a bit off. Not sure why - but you get the point.

I am spending today getting ready to leave. I"ll be gone from tomorrow morning till sunday night in McCall.
It's a retreat with some friends. Should be fun. But I'll miss my peeps here. So, feel free to call bunches of times to make sure Tim and the kids haven't killed each other.

Keep him in your prayers

William is sick again. It started Sunday night / Monday morning with a runny nose. Which is irritating in itself since he doesn't blow his nose, but actually tries to wipe his upper lip off. We thought he might be better on Tuesday to send him to school, but he woke up coughing, choking, gagging, which led to throwing up - throw a low grade fever on top of that and we have a boy who is not going to school. Last night we gave him a breathing treatment before bed because of his asthma kicking up from the cold. This morning his cough was much worse and so was his breathing. So, we gave a couple shots of the inhaler and I called the doctor. We took him in at 3:30. I had given him cough medicine and a nebulizer treatment a couple of hours before, but he was obviously in distress. You can tell when because he sounds like he is gulping his air, you can see his neck sink in with every inhale and his ribs start to show. His oxygen level was 90 - which isn't real bad, but they like to see it higher. So they gave him a treatment with the same medicine we use (albuterol) with an added one to make it stronger. It didn't really seem to help much. The doctor gave us a script for prednisone and told us to take him to the hospital if he doesn't get better by tomorrow. Mainly to be checked out more throughly with a chest xray and such. Hopefully it doesn't turn into pneumonia. He's sleeping now, but the cough is bad - sounds like it's choking him. And he's still breathing hard. The dr told us about checking his fingernail color. I'm going to give him another breathing treatment in an hour or so while he's sleeping.
