He's 49 in dog years

9-11-01 is Casey's birthday. He's now 7. No, we don't do this every year. In fact, I've never done this for an animal. But what the heck. My mother accused me of doing these 'bizzaro' things just to put them on the blog. WHAT??? Me, stage an event for the purpose of exploiting it on the web???!!!! NEVER! I'm proud to say that we are truly 'bizzaro' - web or no web. And she should know that better than anyone since bizzaro runs deep in the family tree. Anyway, I digress - back to the dog birthday party. I pulled up a website with recipes for dog birthday cakes. Whipped this up while the kids were in school. There's nothing funky in it like ground cartilage or such - just some flour, peanutbutter, grated carrots, and such. Totally edible by the humans of the house. Casey gave it the sniff check - he approved.  

Here's what happened - it didn't go exactly as planned. 

 

Look how excited they were about this cake!

Will had been excited all day about Casey's birthday party.  The hats were a nice touch, huh?  Say yes - please.  I went to three stores to find them.

We sang happy birthday.  Look at the dogs - there's no way they don't know this is all about them.  Weird, huh?  The look on Russell's face during this was priceless.  It was a mix of disbelief and amusement.

Snoopy was like the annoying younger kid at the party who you keep telling to scoot back.

He came over to the other side for a better view, but he couldn't stand it any longer and broke protocol by jumping up on the table.

That was met with a swift kick.  Sorry pup, all bets are off when you jump on my table.

As if that weren't enough chaos, this happened soon as we put the cake down for a picture.  This is where Casey quickly consumes two candles and Will nearly has a heart attack. 

The damage.

There was no way Casey was going to let Snoopy take his birthday cake.  Two pieces consumed in record time.  Before Snoopy could even get on the table.  Yes, this is horrifying.  No, my dogs are NEVER allowed on the table, in fact they are usually shooed away when they get close enough to even sniff what's on the table.

Thanks Dad for the great party.  I love you.

This is the FUNNIEST FRIGGIN THING I have seen in a long time!!!! I am hysterical with laughter! The dog world just keeps giving human lessons every day!! (course, I learn this from watching OTHER people's dogs...) Give an old person a birthday party and they will come to life, do crazy things, and eat up all their cake before the kids get any!!
