Aren't ethnic holidays fun?? Gives us an opportunity to expose ourselves to things outside of our daily lives. For instance - I've got a crockpot of pinto beans cooking right now. If it weren't Cinco Da Mayo I would probably have a crockpot of ..... oh wait, I planned the beans before I realized it was a mexican holiday. Yeah, like we never eat mexican/american food. I'd rather go to our favorite local Mexican joint to celebrate with a margarita being served to me. Budget wise that wouldn't be smart. Smart is a crockpot of pinto beans. Maybe I'll just blend up a crystal light with ice and pretend it's a margarita.
ANYHOW, speaking of ethnic holidays. Remember this one?
Yeah, NoRuz, the Persian new year. Part of the tradition is to set a display table with specific things that start with 'S' (in Farsi). So I set about getting a goldfish. I remember Mom getting usually two goldfish for our table growing up. I also remember it dying a couple days later. So I go to walmart and buy my 12 cent goldfish. I explain that I only have a flower vase to keep him in to the sales girl. She says I should only get one then. She also shows me a whole set up that includes a bowl, water conditioner, and food. I'm doing this on the cheap, so I stick with the 12 cent fish and take my chances. Bring him home, set him up with the table.
Here he is.
MORE THAN SIX WEEKS LATER!!!!
We've changed his water several times with plain tap water, once I gave him a few panko bread crumbs but they just seemed to float to the bottom and cloud the water. Then yesterday I started to feel bad for him and sprinkled a couple of corn flake crumbs in the vase. He quickly gobbled them up. I've transfered him form one vase to another. For about a week he lived in a vase meant for a single stem flower. Then I moved him yesterday to a roomier vase and fed him a cornflake. He was so happy he was zooming all over the vase. I like to call him 'air fish'. You know - like the air plants that live on nothing.
So what the heck?? Am I supposed to go buy fish food now? Is he really an 'air fish' and can live on nothing? I was going to sprinkle another cornflake into the vase yesterday and Tim said - 'NO! don't mess him up by feeding him!' Whaaa?
He'll probably die now that I've gone and told the world about him. I hope you have PETA on speed dial.
his name is swimmy.

Fill the vase up to the top, he will eventually jump out thinking life is better on the outside. You can then rename him floppy.

Okay so now I'm feeling kind of bad for air fish:(
Maybe you should just flush him and put him out of his misery.
Love your blog. Didn't know about it til now.
